Hello, and welcome! I’m so happy that you found us!

20 years ago, I experienced a life crisis; rock bottom, and a turning point in my life. I had just had a baby and suddenly faced divorce and managing life on my own. Although it took some time, through inspirational books and quotes, and intense therapy, I learned to forgive and found the courage to face the world in a positive independent way.

I had lived a good portion of my life believing in my own lack, with an overwhelming sense of unworthiness. The only way I found to counter this belief was to have the courage to think bigger, believe in my own capabilities and pursue a greater vision. The pursuit of this vision required me to work through my doubts and fears and believe in myself, and in the process of doing this, I became a different person.

I had found the secret to change and that was, if it was going to be, it was up to me. I decided from that moment that I would make every day special, and pursue my life’s passion.

I recall a particular moment when I cut my young daughter’s toast into the shape of a heart. She held it up admiringly with an expression that said I had just made her day special. I thought how easy it was.

Knowing many people were experiencing their own struggles, perhaps this was a message that could resonate with them. I wondered how it could be shared in a big way. One day the idea came to me in the form of a magazine, a marriage of food and inspiration, inspiring readers to Make Everyday Special.

The name ANNA came to me as though through a divine intervention; having been raised by a mom who was frugal and the greatest homemaker, it made perfect sense to name it after her. The name ANNA means beautiful, of grace and favour.

In 2005, ANNA Magazine was born in my home kitchen. And I have never looked back. It caught on quickly and readers fell in love with the beautiful, inspirational magazine.

ANNA exists as a testament to the empowerment of taking action despite fear while our products serve as vehicles of productivity and transformation. It is my deepest hope that our products serve to empower others to overcome their own limiting beliefs and access the courage necessary to pursue their own best life.

I continue to grow as a person, and when a challenge arises I quickly remind myself to Make Everyday Special.

With gratitude,

Mari Loewen, founder of ANNA
